East Texas roadwork projects for the week of Aug. 27

Released by the Texas Department of Transportation:

TYLER, Texas – TxDOT is planning to conduct the following construction and maintenance work throughout the district during the Weeks of Aug. 27 and Sept. 3, 2018. Schedules are subject to change due to weather conditions, equipment failure or other unforeseen issues. Slow down and pay attention when traveling through work zones.

In Henderson County, County Road (CR) 4618 will be closed for most of the day Friday, August 24, for work on the SH 19 construction project. The closure will require detouring traffic. Northbound traffic can use CR 4617 to access CR 4618; southbound can access CR 4618 by taking CR 4619. Additional information about the SH 19 Widening Project is available in the Henderson County section of this release. 

Anderson County Palestine Maintenance crews plan to conduct level up operations at the bridge approaches on FM 645 between US 79 and FM 321. Expect lane closures with flaggers providing traffic control. Crews will also perform spot edge repairs on roadways throughout the county.

US 79 New Lane Construction Project

Closeout activities including final striping continue as this job winds down. The project is expanding a 5.3-mile section of US 79 from two lanes to a four-lane divided highway with a continuous left-turn lane and a depressed median.

SH 19 Widening Project II

The contractor is conducting final hot mix paving operations for the surface mix as the project moves toward completion. Expect daily lanes closures utilizing flaggers and a pilot car to escort traffic through the work area. The project is widening the roadway with the addition of shoulders and passing lanes. The posted speed limit is 55 mph.

US 79 at UPRR Overpass Project

Motorists should use caution when traveling through this work zone as the travel lanes have been narrowed with no shoulder in either direction. Wide loads should seek alternate routes due to restrictions for oversized vehicles. Daily lane closures are possible. The speed limit has been reduced to 60 mph on this project that includes, cleaning and painting steel girders, bridge rail replacement, and a concrete overlay of the existing bridge deck.

US 287 Overlay Project

The contractor is preparing to start mill and inlay operations and mowing the right-of-way as well as litter pickup throughout the project. No lane closures are anticipated. The project consists of MBGF upgrades, base repair, mill & inlay, surface treatment, surface hot mix, and permanent striping.

Cherokee County – Jacksonville and Rusk maintenance crews plan to conduct edge repairs on FM 2274 between US 79 and SH 204. Expect lane closures with flaggers providing traffic control.

US 69 Widening through Wells

The contractor continues to place driveways on the west side of the roadway, and is scheduled to place hot mix pavement. The project is widening US 69 through Wells from two lanes to four lanes with new curb and gutter and a two-way left turn lane through town. There are minimal impacts on traffic. The speed limit has been reduced on the northern end of the project until work is completed.

US 84 Restoration in Rusk

The contractor continues with the placement of underdrain using daily lane closures. The project will place roadway underdrain and repave the roadway lane through town.

Gregg County – Longview Maintenance crews plan to continue ditch maintenance on SH 149 near Easton. Sweeping operations will be implemented on SH 31. The week of September 3, crews plan to conduct erosion repairs in the Lakeport area of SH 322 and SH 149. Expect lane closures with flaggers managing traffic control.

SH 42 Rabbit Creek Bridge Repairs

SH 300/Gilmer Road Overlay (Notice of Project Completion)

US 80 Widening in Gladewater

Phase II construction continues with the roadway reduced to one lane of travel for both westbound and eastbound traffic. Work continues on storm sewer, curb and gutter, and flex-base on the north side of the roadway. The project consists of widening US 80 to four through lanes with a left turn lane from Loop 485 to Locker Plant Road.

Loop 281 at FM 1845/Pine Tree Road

SH 149 at Sabine River

Traffic is in the normal configuration with two lanes flowing in each direction. Expect alternating lane closures daily as the contractor continues work on the project. The project includes constructing new rails and sidewalk on the bridge, increasing its load carrying capacity, and installing new guardrail on I-20.

Henderson County – Athens Maintenance crews plan to perform base repair work on FM 1616 between Loop 7 and FM 773, and on FM 1615 between SH 19 and CR 4524. A second crew will be repairing edges on various roads in the west end of the county. Expect lane closures with flaggers providing traffic control at intersections.

SH 31 Overlay Project

SH 19 Widening Project III

The contractor plans to place and cement treat the flex-base on the northbound shoulder. Work also includes curing the flex-base for prime, installing the remaining driveway pipes, and obliterating and reconstructing the intersection of CR 4613 and SH 19. The speed limit has been reduced to 60 mph for the duration of the project which consists of adding 10-foot shoulders on both the northbound and southbound travel lanes.

US 175 Widening Project (Phase I)

The contractor has implemented a new traffic pattern that separates westbound and eastbound traffic. Motorists should observe advance warning signs and message boards directing traffic to the proper lanes. Final hot mix paving and seal coat operations are underway on the eastbound lanes from Baxter to one mile east of Larue. Watch for trucks entering and exiting the work zone. Expect brief delays in construction areas around county roads 4710, 4712, 4713, 4719, and 4720 as well as Loop 60. The speed limit is 55 mph on this project to expand US 175 from two lanes to a four-lane divided highway with a depressed median.

US 175 Widening Project (Phase III) in Anderson County

Traffic is on the westbound lanes as an undivided highway running east/west as work is conducted in the eastbound lanes. The contractor is working in the two southern most lanes from Elm St. to Cemetery Road to install driveway pipe and box culverts. Installation necessitates the continuation of clear/grub, demolishing existing culverts, and excavation. SW3P items are continuously installed and repaired on this project that is expanding US 175 from two lanes to a four-lane divided highway with a depressed median.  

Rusk County Henderson Maintenance crews plan to continue edge work on SH 42 from FM 850 to FM 2012. Expect lane closures with flaggers and a pilot car providing traffic control.

Ruck County construction projects updates:

US 259 NB Overlay

Smith County Tyler Maintenance crews plans to conduct routine ditch work on roadways around the county this week. Mill and inlay operations will begin the week of September 3, on Martin Luther King, Jr., Blvd. between US 271 and FM 14. Expect lane closures with flaggers providing traffic control.

Legacy Trails – Hike and Bike Trail Development

No lane closures are planned the week of August 27 as the contractor continues sidewalk construction along the West Trail. During the week of September 3, the contractor is scheduled to perform culvert work on the eastbound Toll 49 Exit Ramp to FM 2493 using a daily lane closure. The project consists of constructing 4.4 miles of hike and bike trails in Southwest Tyler. It includes the construction of parking lots, driveways, landscaping, pedestrian ramps, crosswalks and drainage structures along the 10-foot wide hike and bike trails.

Spur 248 Widening Project

Daytime lane closures are anticipated as the contractor places striping and seeding. The speed limit is 55 mph during construction to widen Spur 248 from two lanes to a four-lane divided roadway with a flush median.

The project is removing the existing medians to extend the turn lanes and add right turn lanes to various intersections in Tyler. Work locations include US 69, Cumberland Road, Independence, South Donnybrook, Rice, South Town and wrap up at Grande and FM 2493.

FM 346 Bridge Replacement Project

US 69 Resurfacing Project

Van Zandt County Canton Maintenance plans to address drainage maintenance on roads around Van Zandt County. The week of September 3, crews anticipate conducting overlay operations on FM 1995 from the Smith County line to FM 314. Expect lane closures with flaggers providing traffic control.

I-20 Westbound Exit Ramp at FM 314 Relocation Project
