East Texas Ag News: What can you plant in winter months?

EAST TEXAS (KLTV/KTRE) - Unlike other parts of the country, the ground here in East Texas doesn’t freeze.

So the Texas A&M Agrilife Extension Service in Overton is reminding you all that many things can be planted this time of year.

Among their list they mention fruit trees and vines. These plants are dug by growers while they are dormant and shipped bare-root.

So if you make your selection now and quickly get them in the ground, they will begin to establish their root system.

Roses and other dormant flowering plants are also available this month.

You can also be preparing the soil now for new flower, rose or shrub beds by mixing in plenty of organic material like compost and fertilizer.
