LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A Lufkin church is hoping the public can help them recover thousands of dollars worth of sound equipment and instruments recently stolen from them.
Church leaders at the Upper Room Pentecostal Holiness Church said it appears someone broke in Sunday and stole the church’s entire music system, including several amps, microphones, a guitar, and much more.
“The pastor got here about 11 o’clock, service starts at 11, so he got here roughly a little before,” said Talitha Jackson, church secretary. “He noticed that the side entrance was open -- which it never is -- so it led him to believe something foul was going.”
The sound system, which was kept in the pastor’s office, was worth several thousands of dollars, Jackson said. Church leaders said they will soon install a security system to prevent future break-ins; however, they hope to find the person(s) responsible so they can recover the items stolen so they can continue worship.
“The church used to be a place that was sacred, no one ever messed with the church, so it’s just mind boggling that someone would walk in and take whatever they want to take,” said Jackson. “Violate the church, violate the members; it’s just, it’s heartbreaking.”
Jackson said the church holds services only on Sunday, so they’re not sure when the break-in might have occurred. If you have any information about the case, you’re asked to call the Lufkin Police Department.
