LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - East Texas teachers are paying close attention to several education-related bills that are making their way through the state legislature.
One of the bills calls for Texas teachers to get a $5,000 pay raise. Many of the teachers East Texas News spoke to today said they are having to work several jobs to make ends meet.
Another of the bill teachers are keeping an eye on calls for the elimination of the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness, or the STAAR tests.
In addition, teachers said that they are going to take part in lobbying efforts to make their voices heard.
East Texas News will have more on this later today.
