Driver in one-vehicle wreck in Polk County charged with intoxicated assault

POLK COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Texas Department of Public Safety troopers arrested two men on alcohol-related charges after a one-vehicle wreck that occurred on FM 350 in Polk County late Friday night.

The third person in the vehicle was airlifted to a Houston hospital for treatment of his injuries.

According to a press release, DPS troopers responded to and investigated a one-vehicle wreck on FM 350, just west FM 3126.

The preliminary crash investigation shows that at about 10:10 p.m. Ryan Barnes, 21, of Livingston, was driving south on FM 350, and struck a utility pole and a metal gate and fence after it reached the end of the road.

Barnes’ passengers were identified as Devon Skiles, 18, and Jarrett Martin, 24, both of Livingston.

Barnes and Skiles were transported to CHI St. Luke’s Health Memorial in Livingston for treatment and later released. A medical helicopter airlifted Martin to Hermann Hospital in Houston for treatment of his injuries.

Barnes was charged with third-degree felony intoxication assault with a vehicle causing serious bodily injury and Class B misdemeanor making a false report to a peace officer. His combined bond amount was set at $16,500.

Skiles was charged with minor consume alcoholic beverage and minor in possession of alcoholic beverage, which are both Class C misdemeanors.
