TYLER COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - A fiery two-vehicle wreck involving a motorcycle and a pickup that occurred on U.S. Highway 190 in Tyler County claimed the life of a 53-year-old Magnolia man Tuesday evening.

According to a press release, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers responded to the crash at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. The wreck occurred about six miles west of Woodville.

The initial crash report shows that Matthew Calley was driving a 2018 Harley Davidson west on Highway 190. At the same time, Derrick Simmons, 41, of Point Blank, was driving a 2003 Dodge pickup east on Highway 190.

Simmons told the DPS troopers that investigated the wreck that he thought he saw headlights in his traffic lane, so he moved over to the shoulder of the roadway, the press release stated. Then he allegedly took evasive action to avoid a collision by veering to the left, but his pickup struck the motorcycle.

After the wreck, both vehicles caught fire, the press release stated.

Tyler County Justice of the Peace Trisher Ford pronounced Calley dead at the scene of the wreck.

Simmons and his two passengers were treated by medical personnel and released a short time later.

“This remains an ongoing investigation as troopers work to determine the exact factors that contributed to this fatal crash,” the press release stated.
