New law puts harsher penalty on cattle thieves

Posted: Updated:

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Starting Wednesday, September 2, 2009, cattle thieves will face a harsher penalty.

If someone steals less than 10 head of cattle, horses, exotic wildlife or fowl, they could be convicted of a third degree felony and face up to 10 years in prison. The Texas Legislature passed the law back in May and Wednesday it's being enforced.
