ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Four people were killed and two were injured in a two car wreck late Wednesday night on Highway 103, 11 miles west of Lufkin.

According to Department of Public Safety Investigator Howard Kevin Malone, a Dodge van was stopped in the east bound shoulder of Highway 103 when the driver of the van attempted to make a u-turn back on the roadway, traveling into the path of a semi-truck.

Malone said the semi-truck slammed into the van, which was carrying a family of four from Austin and a family of two from Pflugerville.

Todd Szymankiewicz, 35, and his two small children, died at the scene. Todd's wife, Deva Szymankiewicz survived the accident. As of Thursday, she was reported to be in stable condition with internal injuries. Malone says the two survivors were flown to Brackenridge Memorial Hospital in Austin.

The driver, Holly Klein, of Pflugerville, survived the accident as well. Dakota Klein, 14, of Pflugerville died at the scene.

All four victims were pronounced dead at 11:15 p.m. by Judge R.G. Bowers.

Both families were wearing their seatbelts. The driver of the semi-truck, Jay Garth, of Huntington was not injured.
