LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A former nursing home accused of abusing an elderly woman pleaded guilty last month to the crime and agreed to a 20-month jail sentence.
Johnetta Phillips was caught on tape by the victim's husband on two separate occasions abusing his 77-year-old wife. The husband turned the tape in to police in July.
According to the arrest affidavit, Phillips grabbed the victim's right arm and twisted it down forcefully, then struck her three times on her right arm.
In another instance, the tape showed Phillips wheel the victim next to her bed, then roughly putting her in bed, causing her to hit her head on the headboard.
The victim's husband had reported possible abuse to police, but because of his wife's mental state, they could not identify the abuser. That is when the husband set up the video camera in the room at Castle Pines Nursing Home.
