TRINITY CO., TX (KTRE) - Although the sign out front says otherwise, if you came to gamble, you're out of luck.

"It was a lot for that house because he couldn't have put anymore in that house," said Trinity County Chief Deputy Billy Patton.

Thirty-one eight-liners were confiscated because authorities believe the winnings were paid in cash.

The business off south Highway 19 in Trinity is where law enforcement says Moody was operating the illegal gambling room when law enforcement executed the search warrant.

"We'd received information about a gaming room or a gaming house that was paying off cash," Patton said. "They can give away items or gifts, something like that, but they can't give away any kind of monetary coins or checks."

With nearly $2,000 seized, Patton says the cash payoff wasn't huge for the sheriff's office. The raid, on the other hand, was a success.

"When you're in law enforcement, any time you make a good arrest it feels good because usually the odds are stacked against you," Patton said.

This time, the odds were stacked against Robert Moody, 78.

"He kind of accepted it and we went in, you know, he didn't put up any fuss or any fight or anything like that," Patton said.

Patton says cases like this happen, just not often.

"It's not that unusual, it's just not an everyday occurrence," Patton said. "People like to gamble."

If you gamble with the law, Trinity deputies say you will lose big.

Moody, of Groveton, was arrested and charged with "keeping a gambling place."  That is a Class A misdemeanor.

Moody is out of jail on a $3,000 bond.
