GRAPELAND, Texas (KTRE) - A Grapeland woman has been charged with murder in her husband's shooting death Friday night.

According to a press release issued by the Houston County Sheriff's Office, law enforcement officers responded to a shooting at 9:33 p.m. Friday at a residence outside the Grapeland city limits, on County Road 2310. When they arrived, a man, identified as Ernest Bernard, 43, was found on the living room floor with a gunshot wound.

A justice of the peace pronounced him dead on the scene and sheriff's deputies arrested his wife, Tina Marie Bernard, 43. The couple's children were at the home at the time of the shooting. They were interviewed at the sheriff's office and released to other family members.

She is being held in the Houston County Jail on a charge of murder, with a $200,000 bond.

An arrest warrant affidavit reveals more details on the investigation. According to the affidavit, Tina Bernard called 911 and said, "I shot my husband in the face."

Tina Bernard later told investigators that her husband had been agitated all evening, yelling at family and "she just wanted it to stop," according to the affidavit.

She said she went to a bedroom and came back to the living room with a Taurus .357 Magnum pistol and fired one round at him, striking him in the upper left cheek, according to the affidavit.

The Moore family has resided next door to the Bernards for three years.

"They pretty much get drunk and aggravate each other. So you can imagine what goes on," said Richard Moore.

They knew something was going on next door when they saw the flashing lights of the police cars pull up next door.

"So we knew something was wrong. When they start putting up yellow tape we knew somebody got it," said Moore.

The Moores hopes Tina Bernard's arrest means they'll finally have some peace.

More than a few tar-covered tires are hanging on to the parking lot of a Lufkin tire shop.  On August 31, newly laid asphalt on Loop 287 started sticking to tires of those driving, leaving many of the cars un-driveable. As of Friday, the Texas Department of Transportation hadn't come out with an official cause for the incident, but that hasn't stopped over 600 people from filing claims with them.
