AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - At least 18 University of Texas students have been arrested outside the Austin school president's office in a protest against possible staff cutbacks. The students were arrested on misdemeanor criminal trespass charges after refusing to leave when regular business hours ended yesterday. The sit-in targeted a shared services proposal being considered by UT.
SAN ANTONIO (AP) - An unintended big splash has left a vehicle in a private swimming pool in San Antonio. Investigators are trying to determine what caused a woman to lose control of her car last night. The vehicle crashed through a rock wall and a privacy fence before landing in the backyard pool.
HOUSTON (AP) - A Nigerian who for years fought extradition to Texas has pleaded guilty to recruiting students in his homeland to internally smuggle heroin into the U.S. Houston authorities say Koyode Lawrence pleaded guilty to conspiracy to import a controlled substance. Lawrence faces up to life in prison and a potential $5 million fine.
MIDLAND, Texas (AP) - A Carrollton woman has been arrested in a cooked corn dog dispute at a West Texas business. Charmelle Henry is charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Investigators say Henry paid 75 cents for a corn dog but became upset when she was handed a microwaved version.
