Tina Alexander is a longtime member of the East Texas News team. During her tenure, she has worked as an anchor, reporter, News Director, and all points in between.
Tina is currently KTRE's News Director. She is responsible for overseeing all newscasts and News Department operations and personnel. She also produces a weekly feature called "Somebody's Got To Do It" which features interesting jobs that keep East Texans working. In addition, Tina produces "Inside East Texas", a monthly public affairs show to keep viewers informed on topics relating to crime, education, medical technologies, health services, the economy, youth, and other pressing issues facing our local community.
Ms. Alexander is a native of Lufkin and a graduate of Lufkin High School. She received her degree in Communications from Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. She is married to George Sellers. They have two children, Adam and Amber, and a very smart Chihuahua named "Peanut".
Tina has received numerous awards for her work in broadcasting and her service to the community. These include the Pinnacle Award from the Citizens Chamber of Commerce; "Woman of the Year" from Alpha Kappa Alpha, Eta Epsilon Chapter (at SFASU); the "Outstanding Woman in Broadcasting" award from the AAUW; the "Outstanding Leadership in Agricultural Journalism" award; the "Outstanding Community Service" award from the Top Ladies of Distinction; recognition from Outstanding Young Women in America; and Distinguished Service awards from Special Olympics, the American Cancer Society, and the United Way of Angelina County.
She is very active in the community. Tina is currently serving as a member of the Board of Directors for the Angelina County Chamber of Commerce (she was Chairman in 2001), and is a member of the Chamber Coalition for Better Community. She also serves on the Volunteer Services Council Board of the Lufkin State School, and is a graduate of Leadership Lufkin. Tina is on the Board of Directors of Angelina Beautiful / Clean (she was Chairman in 2000), and volunteers with the H.O.S.T.S. (Helping One Student to Succeed) mentoring program. She is a member of the Junior League of Lufkin (serving as Provisional Trainer in 2000), and the Lufkin High School Alumni Association Board. The Sellers family attends Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Lufkin, where Tina is Youth Sponsor and on the Usher Board.
In addition, Tina is a member of the Radio-Television News Directors Association, the National Association of Black Journalists, and the Stephen F. Austin State University Alumni Association.
In her spare time (on those rare occasions when she has some!), Tina likes to spend time with her family and reading. She also loves watching youth and professional sports.
Tina says she follows this creed: "I am only one. But I am one. I can't do everything, but I can do some things, and what good things I can do, I will do."
