WASHINGTON (AP) - A Democratic senator says there may be additional e-mails that could have tipped off law enforcement or military officials to the Fort Hood shooter before he went on his rampage. Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Carl Levin says his committee will investigate whether e-mails involving suspect Nidal Malik Hasan were handled properly.

DALLAS (AP) - Texas Governor Rick Perry and U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison have agreed to a debate before their hotly contested Republican gubernatorial primary next spring. Officials at Dallas public television station KERA say both candidates accepted a Jan. 14 debate in northern Texas. The primary is March 2.

DEL RIO, Texas (AP) - A Customs and Border Protection agent has been indicted for allegedly assaulting a 15-year-old in custody. A federal grand jury in Del Rio indicted Jesus E. Diaz Jr., accusing him of using unreasonable force and allegedly violating the teen's constitutional rights during the October 2008 incident.

SAN ANTONIO (AP) - An attorney for Fort Hood shooting suspect Nidal Malik Hasan says a hearing is to be held today in Hasan's hospital room at the Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio. Attorney John Galligan says he'll argue for the paralyzed Hasan to stay in intensive care instead of being placed in pre-trial confinement, which usually means jail.
