Christel Phillips joined the KTRE news team in May 2007. Since she has worked several positions including producer, video journalist, and is currently an anchor/producer for the East Texas News at 5 and 6.
Christel is a native Houstonian, but very proud to call East Texas her home. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Communications from the University of Houston. During her college career she decided to expand her horizons, so she attended Kukulcan Spanish Immersion School in Cuernavaca, Mexico.
She has won several awards in public speaking, including becoming a National gold medalist in oratory in the NAACP ACT-SO competition. In 1999, she was the recipient of McDonald's Black History Maker of Tomorrow award.
