Freedom Fighters: Bob Romines

Bob Romines was drafted into the Army just nine hours short of completing his degree at Stephen F. Austin University. He arrived in Vietnam in 1968, during the last part of the Tet Offensive. As a helicopter pilot with the 45th Medical Company, Romines flew into enemy fire daily to rescue wounded soldiers. Fellow crew members called him "fearless".

Before his twelve month tour of duty in Vietnam was over, Romines had flown more than a thousand hours and completed 1,471 missions, evacuating 3,620 patients. During that year, no one flew into danger more often or saved more lives than Colonel Bob Romines He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and has been selected as the newest member of "The Dustoff Hall Of Fame."
