Davita Lufkin Dialysis Shut Down

KTRE has just learned that the Davita Lufkin Dialysis Center will temporarily shut down.

The decision came late this afternoon. According to Jerry McNeill, Vice President of Davita Dialysis, the center decided to 'voluntarily' close because of recent systematic complications with several patients. Davita Lufkin Dialysis, located in the 700 block of South John Redditt will be closed as of tomorrow, April 29th.

The center has coordinated with area hospitals and other dialysis facilities to ensure the 150 displaced patients they serve will continue to receive the proper care needed.  Memorial Hospital say the are accepting 20 patients from Davita, which will make them full to capacity. The hospital plans to pull all its resources to make sure the patients can stay close to home. Woodland Heights will also be accepting Davita patients. Davita has also contacted the Texas Department of State Health, CDC, and CMS, each will come into the facility to conduct surveys.

The vice president declined to comment on the specifics of the temporary closure, but says it was a drastic decision that needed to be done for the benefit of patient health and safety.

The center has been notifying all of their patients of the immediate closure via telephone and hopes to have contacted them all by tonight.
