Is Saturday mail delivery in jeopardy?

UNDATED - Recently, the U.S. Postal Service officially submitted a proposal to scale back mail service to eliminate Saturday deliveries.  A regulatory board and Congress would have to approve the new schedule and it would mean roughly 40,000 postal workers would be out of jobs.

Letter carriers would be the hardest hit.  Mike Hotovery has worked for the postal service for 17 years and he worries that as the postal service moves to cut its losses, the carriers and the customers will end up being the real losers.  "Let's try to protect the jobs, that's the bottom line, and I'd hate to see it take away service," Hotovey said.

It'll take at least six months before the regulatory board and Congress comes to a decision about whether or not to change the postal schedule.
