More changes in store for Highway 59 motorists

LUFKIN, TX - The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and its project contractor, Zachry Construction Corp., have reduced the northbound intersection of US 59 and Loop 287 South in Lufkin to one travel lane today. Motorists should use caution and expect delays when traveling through the construction zone.

According to TxDOT, this area of the roadway will remain at one lane for the next few weeks as the intersection is rebuilt. Meanwhile, work continues on the Eastbound Frontage Road at U.S. 59 and Loop 287 South. This afternoon the first on-ramp to Loop 287/US 59, located near Chick-fil-A, will be closed requiring all U.S. 59 traffic to exit the second ramp just past Tulane, near the Burke Center, to enter Loop 287. This work was planned for last Thursday, March 12 but was postponed due to weather conditions.

TxDOT advises motorists to use alternate routes when possible to avoid delays in reaching their destinations. Caution is advised when traveling through these and all work zones. Remember traffic fines double when workers are present.
