NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - A judge denied bond for Kyle Barnhill in an arraignment hearing Wednesday morning.

Barnhill appeared before Dorothy Tigner-Thompson, justice of the peace for district 2, where he requested a court-appointed attorney.

Barnhill is charged with killing his estranged wife, Melissa Barnhill. Melissa Barnhill died from a gunshot wound in her neck while cooking dinner for her two young daughters. The shot came from outside her home.

Kyle Barnhill is charged with first-degree murder and could be indicted as early as Friday.

An arrest affidavit stated Barnhill was seen running out of the woods behind Melissa Barnhill's house. It also stated he had scratches on his face when he was interviewed the night of his wife's death.

Barnhill was arrested Monday in Eagle Pass without incident and was transported to Nacogdoches Tuesday.
