LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Singing is nothing new for Kendall Beard.

"This process compared to what I've done in the past is, I don't really know how to explain it.  It's amazing because I get to see where all my hard work has paid off," said Beard.

However, this stage was different for the songbird.

Beard said, "The audience really isn't as big as people think it is, and you know your in there with judges, a few audience members, your family and some cameras, but the thing is, you know how many people are on the other side of that camera."

She conquered her fears, but she is still shocked she made it to the Top 36.

"I cannot believe I'm standing right here on this stage getting ready to sing for 40 million people.  I cannot believe it," Beard said.

East Texans were among the 40 million rooting for the small town girl and for that, she said thank you will never be enough.

"The amount of support that I've received from East Texas is so overwhelming.  It's been so amazing," Beard said.

She is taking that support and hitting the road soon to talk to people in the music industry.

"It has opened so many doors for me already," said Beard.

She's still dreaming big.

Kendall said her friends have always wanted her to try out for American Idol and she is just glad she went to Puerto Rico last summer and gave it a shot.
