Aspen Power construction stopped for now

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -  Aspen Power said the Environmental Protection Agency ordered them to stop work on their power plant construction because they claim Aspen Power did not have the right permit.

However, Aspen said they were operating under orders from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality that allowed them to continue construction because they were already in the process of getting the permit.

Aspen Power President Danny Vines said, "I think the EPA, by just looking at part of the facts and not communicating with Aspen Power or Aspen Power employees, not totally understanding the total situation, somewhat over-reacted from our standpoint."

He said for each month they have to stop construction, the local economy will lose $1.5 million. However, Vines said they are hopeful they will start construction back up within the next week or so.
