Voters may have to show more ID at the polls

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The Texas Senate passed a Voter ID Bill that would require voters to show a photo ID or two forms of alternate identification to confirm their identity.

The Angelina County Tax Assessor-Collector said the law may just increase frustration for local voters.

"They can verify every other record we have on the role, but without the card or the ID, we don't let them vote, and so to be required to bring in both at the same time is going to take some getting used to," Angelina County Tax Assessor-Collector Thelma "Midget" Sherman said.

Sherman said she knows once you get used to anything it will be work out, but she will still have to turn many voters away if the new law goes into effect, and she may have to take on some extra help. The bill has passed in the Texas Senate, but it now has to pass in the House.
