Police arrest San Augustine man for abuse of infant

Police arrested a San Augustine man for aggravated assault of a child when it was discovered by medical personnel the baby had permanent damage from shaken baby syndrome.

According to San Augustine Police Chief Jesse Fountain, police arrested Christopher Holman on March 10 and CPS put his three-month-old daughter into foster care.

Fountain said the infant was picked up by ambulance on an emergency call and transported to Shreveport. Doctors reported the infant had shaken baby syndrome and the police department opened an investigation.

Fountain said at first neither the mother nor father would confess to abusing the baby so CPS removed her from the home. Holman later confessed, Fountain said.

"We expect the mother to get the baby back," Fountain said. "But she'll have to have training because the baby will have permanent damage."
