LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Kendall Beard's rise to stardom has been fast.

"I've just been there to carry her train around, but when she first told me that she wanted to audition for Idol, my first thought, I said, no you don't," Kendall's mom, Lisa Beard said.

She quickly changed her tune when she saw how bad kendall wanted to be on the show.

"It's life-changing for one thing, but it was so exciting when she made it through the first audition," Kendall's mom said.

Kendall said, "This past year it's like a dream.  Like I say, I wake up every morning and I just can't believe, I'm like did I really go through this?"

A dream her dad has shared since the start.

"Whenever she was young, she told me at 14, dad I want to be a singer, and I said well baby, if you're going to be a singer, you're going to be tied up on weekends," Kendall's dad, Darrell Beard said.

That did not stop Kendall. Her parents have been with her every step of the way, never missing a beat.

"To see the courage and to be aggressive enough to go after her dreams...I could not help, but be so proud of her," her dad said.

No matter what stage she is on, her parents know she is one-of-a-kind.

Her parents also said the support of the East Texas community gave Kendall a lot of confidence to go forward and they are so grateful.
