Charges filed in San Augustine against Kyle Barnhill

SAN AUGUSTINE, TX (KTRE) - Kyle Barnhill is in the Nacogdoches county jail awaiting possible indictment by a county grand just for first degree murder.  But he also has an unauthorized use of a motor vehicle charge against him from San Augustine county that could come into play if he posts bond on the murder charge.

San Augustine county chief deputy Gary Cunningham said a warrant for that charge was signed by the justice of the peace.  If Barnhill posts the two million dollar bond for the murder charge in Nacogdoches county, he would also have to pay the 15 thousand dollar bond in San Augustine county.

Cunningham says the vehicle charge is fairly insignificant and they fully intend to work with Nacogdoches county during the process of this case.

Investigators say Barnhill borrowed a car from a friend and he failed to return it. Emmett Luman reported the car missing.  Barnhill was arrested last week in Eagle Pass.   Investigators have charged him in the shooting death of his wife, Melissa, who was shot through her kitchen window while cooking dinner for her two young daughters.  The couple was separated at the time of the shooting.

The Nacogdoches county district attorney hopes to take the case to a county grand jury for consideration, possibly as early as this week.
