Sarver's journey: Singer made good first impression

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Michael Sarver first appeared on American Idol in January and sang "Thank You" by Boyz II Men at the Phoenix auditions.

Idol loved his story immediately, airing a package on Sarver's life as a roughneck.

"My job is the fifth-most dangerous job in the world," Sarver told the judges.

"So you're the exact opposite of Ryan Seacrest," Simon Cowell said.

After Sarver's performance, Randy Jackson said Sarver did not sound like what he looked like. "You're like a sweet roughneck," Cara said. Paula Abdul said he had a good voice and Cowell said he had likability.

"Goodbye oil field, hello Hollywood!" Sarver said outside the audition.

Follow every weekday through April 7 as we chronicle Sarver's journey on American Idol.

Sarver will be honored in Jasper April 7 and KTRE will be there providing full coverage of the event.
