Alleged DaVita victim's widow says she's forgiven Saenz

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A widow of a Lufkin man who allegedly died from bleach poured into a syringe while he was receiving dialysis at Lufkin DaVita said she has forgiven the woman accused of killing him.

LaFrances Kelley, widow of Garlin Kelley, who died April 16, 2008, said she does not understand how someone could kill her husband, but she has forgiven whoever is to blame. She also said she does not blame DaVita for her husband's death.

An Angelina County grand jury indicted Kimberly Saenz, of Lufkin, in the deaths of five patients at Lufkin DaVita, as well as causing bodily injury to five other patients. The indictment accuses Saenz, who was a nurse at the clinic at the time, of injecting bleach into the patients' syringes.

Carolyn Risinger, who is listed in the indictment as one of the injured patients, described Kelley as a "really sweet man."

Risinger said she believes DaVita was neglectful in their care of the patients and is using Saenz as a scapegoat.

A DaVita official was reached for comment. He referred comment to a statement they released Wednesday. That statement is linked to the right of this story.

Tonight on East Texas News at 5, Holley Nees talks to Kelley and Risinger about the case.
