Centerville school district reacts to student protesters

CENTERVILLE, TX (KTRE) - The Superintendent of Centerville ISD, near Groveton, said the reasons for his students protest is unfounded.

He responded to allegations made by students who walked out last week in protest. He said the recent contract non-renewal was the first in several years. He also said the school board is elected, not appointed.  Their facilites and supplies are in good shape and the protesters will not miss the TAKS test. The high school TAKS is not this week.

The nine students are expected back at school by the end of this week. He pointed out that his school district is the only one in Trinity County that is TEA recognized.
