LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - It is a tough time for the Brandon Hart family, but right now Brandon's  mother is relying on her faith to bring her through this very difficult time.

"But I thank God for the 20 years that He allowed me to have him," said Belina Hart, mother. "He would have been 21 on Monday."

Belinda Hart is talking about her son Brandon. His passion for life, his generous spirit  "For those that knew him , knew he was a wonderful role model," said Belinda.

His love for running.   "On the night that Brandon was killed, he was doing what he liked best. And that was running."

When an officer knocked on her door Monday night, Hart said she did not know what to think. "And he told me that he had been hit and killed. I mean it would hurt any mother. But I knew Brandon was saved and I know he's in a better place," said Hart.

Brandon's mother believes that he was trying to cross highway 59 from Angelina College to Deer Wood Apartments, where he lived. She thinks Brandon might have seen headlights and panicked.

Police say 21-year-old Christopher Ryan Salazar was driving his car south on highway 59. He swerved, but was unable to avoid hitting Hart. Hart was pronounced dead at Memorial Hospital. Brandon's mother said she has already forgiven Salazar. "Nothing against him because I know when God calls us home it's our time to go," said Hart.

Brandon's mother said her son's race is over in this life, but her son's legacy lives on.

"A wonderful child, a wonderful brother, a wonderful friend. He had a mission and he completed it," said Hart.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 am in the Woodville High School auditorium. A candle light memorial service will also be held on Friday at 8 pm on the Woodville High School track.
