National Walking Day is an old routine for some hospital employees

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Employees at Memorial Health System of East Texas said National Start! Walking Day is not anything out of the ordinary for them. They usually try to take a break from the worries of the workday and spend a few minutes taking the stairs or walking around the block. They said everyone should try it.

"Well, I think if you're setting at a desk and looking at a computer screen, you're going to get different kinds of stress. Physical stress and eyestrain and it's just a good idea to get up and get away from it every once in awhile," said John Phillips, a Registered Nurse at Memorial Hospital.

They started walking when they did the Walk Across Texas program and they plan to keep it up, even if it takes a few minutes out of their work day.
