Funerals set for Tenaha siblings

TENAHA, TX (KTRE) - The funerals for two young siblings killed in a car wreck Tuesday will be held tomorrow.

The bodies of 5-year-old Nathan Cooks and 6-year-old JaLyric Boykin will be laid to rest at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Tenaha.

As for their aunt, Danielle Cooks, she is still recovering in a Tyler hospital. According to Tenaha Principal Scott Tyner, Cooks has developed pneumonia due to a lung injury she suffered in the accident but she is expected to make a full recovery, though it will take a great deal of time, Tyner said.

The three children were hit, while waiting at a bus stop, by a careening pickup truck which had swerved to avoid two cars that had stopped for a bus traveling from the opposite direction.

As for the driver of the pickup - Eloy Lara of Palestine - Texas DPS has turned over the evidence from the wreck to the Shelby county DA's office for review.
