Probable Case of H1N1 Flu in East Texas

EAST TEXAS (KLTV) - New Diana ISD is closing their doors until May 11th after a probable case of H1N1 (formerly know as swine flu) was found.

According to Joyce W. Sloan, Superintendent of New Diana ISD the Texas Department of Health contacted the district to let them know a student was being tested for a probable case of H1N1. They are not releasing which school the student attended yet.

The school district is sending notes home and using an automated system to call parents to let them know the situation.

The following letter to parents has been posted on the school's web site:

April 30, 2009

Dear Parent/Guardian,

Our district has been contacted by the regional office of The Texas Department of Health.  The state has determined that by lab tests there is a probable case of swine flu in our district.  In accordance with the Center for Disease Control, current state guidelines stipulate that school districts in which even one case occurs should be closed for one week.

For this reason New Diana ISD will be closed effective tomorrow May 1, 2009 until Monday May 11, 2009. Administrators will be on hand tomorrow to answer questions as best we can.  But please understand that we cannot reveal any names and our knowledge is solely reliant on updates from The Department of Health.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Sincerely,
Joyce W. Sloan, Superintendent
New Diana ISD
