Tree almost cuts woman's home in half

By Holley Nees - bio | email

HUNTINGTON, TX (KTRE) - "It was my beautiful home I've lived in and I've loved it so much, you know," said homeowner Wanda Matchett.

Sitting in her living room recliner almost left Wanda Matchett standing at death's door.

"I thank the good Lord the first thing I do.  I thank the Lord for saving my life, you know," Matchett said.

The tree left her home almost cut in half, "And now, it's gone and I don't know what I'm going to do right now," she said.

Her home of 20 years isn't the only thing that suffered.

"It hit me on the side of the head.  [It] hit me right there and that's what caused the eye to do that," she explained, pointing to her puffy, red eye.

Injured and alone, but she knew what to do.

"I was just able to crawl out, barely able to crawl out...Got my phone, was trying to use it and it wouldn't work.  So, I said well, I've still got hot water and bathrooms okay over there, so I'm going to take me a bath," she said.

A day later, things were still crashing down as a bowl fell out of the cabinet.

Matchett, surprised, just laughed and said, "That didn't break, but still fell down, guess stuff's still falling," and she'll keep trying to pick things up.
