DPS arrests man following wreck which killed boy

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - A Nacogdoches man is in jail tonight following a Sunday night wreck which killed a 10-year-old boy.

According to an arrest affidavit, Bradley Collins, 18, of Nacogdoches, was driving a 1991 Chevrolet pickup down CR 144 in Nacogdoches County with Seth Simmons, 10, of Nacogdoches and Christian Simmons, 12, of Nacogdoches, riding in the bed of the pickup.

Collins was driving too fast on a curve, the affidavit stated, when he lost control and overcorrected before striking a tree with the bed of the pickup at 7:25 p.m., 10.6 miles north of Nacogdoches.

According to the DPS report, Seth Simmons and Christian Simmons were seriously injured on the scene. Seth Simmons died at 9:50 p.m. at Nacogdoches Memorial Hospital.

Christian Simmons was last listed in critical condition at Memorial with internal injuries.

The passenger in the front of the pickup, Candice Matlock, 14, of Nacogdoches, was last listed in good condition at Memorial Hospital.

Collins was arrested Sunday at 11:41 p.m. and is charged with criminal negligence homicide and faces arraignment on Wednesday.
