Lufkin man pleads guilty to shooting pregnant girlfriend

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A Lufkin man agreed to a life sentence in prison after pleading guilty to killing his pregnant girlfriend, according to a representative of the district attorney's office.

Lufkin Police say Darrell D'Juan Ivey shot Claudia Rodriguez in the head in February 2007. Rodriguez was six months pregnant at the time. Both she and her unborn child died as a result of the shooting. Lufkin police also charged Ivey with drug possession after they allegedly found cocaine and ecstacy while searching his home.

Assistant District Attorney Art Beurereiss said Rodriguez's family agreed to the plea bargain.

Officially, Ivey pled guilty to two counts of murder, one count of possession of cocaine and one count of possession of ecstasy.
