New lion on the prowl at Ellen Trout Zoo

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Two-year-old Adia has been at her new home for a month now. The lion's name translates to "gift". Adia is originally from Africa. Her keeper said although she is only known Adia for a short time, her playful personality is already shining through. The zoo has big plans for the young lion.

"The ultimate goal is to breed Adia with another lion," said Heather Hutchinson, Adia's keeper. Hutchinson said it will also be exciting to have more lions in the exhibit.

As new animals continue to move into the zoo, construction is underway to make room. The Brookshire Brothers said theyare wild about the zoo. For the past five years, theyhave dedicated a Friday each year to do a little "spring cleaning" at the "best little zoo in Texas."
