H1N1 virus case in Angelina County confirmed

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Angelina County has received a positive result on its first confirmed case of the H1N1 virus, according to the state health services Web site.

The first probable case of H1N1 in the county was reported on May 12. County health and school officials confirmed the probable case was taken from a Lufkin High School student.

It is not clear whether the confirmed case and the probable case are the same, but no other probable cases were reported from the county health department.

Angelina County Health District Director Sharon Shaw was not available for comment Wednesday and an employee with the district said Shaw was the only person allowed to comment on the matter.

Lufkin ISD Superintendent Roy Knight said he did not know if the confirmed case was that of the LHS student, but that no other suspected cases from the school district had been sent to the state health department.
