Grand jury indicts Zavalla man for alleged sexual abuse of two girls

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - An Angelina County grand jury has indicted a Zavalla man on charges he sexually assaulted two girls on separate occasions, both in 2006.

A mother first reported in August of 2008 that Martin Reeves Carter Jr., 22, forced her 11-year-old daughter to perform oral sex on him at the Zavalla High School track field. When questioned, an arrest affidavit states Carter denied the allegations, saying the victim was mad at him because she always wanted to drive his vehicle and for him to give her cigarettes and when he refused, she made up the story.

Carter then agreed to a polygraph exam, which he failed, the affidavit stated. Carter then admitted to the charges and provided a written statement explaining his involvement.

According to a second affidavit, a 19-year-old woman reported Reeves forced himself on her when she was 16. Carter admitted to having sex with the woman when she was under the age of 17.

Carter is out of jail on a $25,000 bond.
