"Project Celebration" keeps fresh high school grads safe

EAST TX (KTRE) - Friday is graduation night for many high schools across East Texas. Parents, teachers and communities want to make sure your grad is safe on their special night.

"Project Celebration" helps do just that. Here is how it works, organizers plan a chemical-free, adult-chaperoned party complete with food, games and prizes. The party is held right after the formal ceremony. Organizers say the event keeps the new grads out of harm's way.

"Most of these kids are looking forward to going to college and want to make this night special so that they make it home safe tomorrow morning and get to finish on with their dreams," said Doug Russell, Lufkin High School "Project Celebration" organizer.

This is Russell's fifth year helping organize Project Celebration. Like organizers all over East Texas, he said they could not have done it without the tremendous support from the community.
