Authorities arrest Angelina man for San Augustine Co. murder

SAN AUGUSTINE COUNTY (KTRE) - A team effort from three law enforcement agencies has led to the arrest of an Angelina County man allegedly connected to the death of a San Augustine County man.

Around 3 p.m. Thursday, the San Augustine Sheriff's Office received word that a man was lying dead in his front yard on County Road 4600.

According to San Augustine County Sheriff's Deputy Gary Cunningham, Jamie Kelly was lying dead with multiple gunshot wounds to his head.

"Quite frankly, it almost completely destroyed his head," Cunningham said.

San Augustine County Sheriff's deputies, with the assistance of the Texas Rangers and the Angelina County Sheriff's Office arrested Shoshawnee Harris, a 24-year-old Angelina County man, at his mother's residence on FM 1818 around 1:15 a.m. Friday. He is charged with murder.

"Not many murder investigations fall together like this did," Cunningham said. "It was an overwhelming cooperative effort."

Cunningham said he believes the motive behind the slaying was either a fight over a woman or a drug deal.

Cunningham praised the work of San Augustine District Attorney Kevin Dutton, who assisted in the investigation.
