Two killed, three seriously injured, including two children in wreck

DIBOLL, TX (KTRE) - Two East Texans died early this morning following a two- vehicle head on collision on U.S. 59. The accident happened shortly before midnight .2 miles north of Diboll. Three others, including two children were transferred to hospitals in Houston and Dallas in poor condition.

Crystal Thomas, 29, of Lufkin died at the scene. The state school employee was a passenger in a car driven by Willie Lacy, 48, of Alto who also died at the scene shortly after the crash. Lacy was a railroad worker. With them were Thomas's and Lacy's child, Joveair Thomas, 7, who was transferred to Dallas Children's Hospital with internal and chest injuries. Thomas' other child, Christopher Gross, 4, is being treated in the same hospital for a broken neck and internal injuries. Thomas' mother, the children's grandmother, is with them now.

According to Department of Public Safety, the couple's vehicle was hit head on by a GMC pickup driven by Vicente Gonzalez,30, a landscaper from Corrigan. Gonzalez is in critical condition for broken legs and internal injuries at Hermann Hospital in Houston.  Investigators say Gonzalez was south bound in the north bound lane.

"It's like waking up from a bad dream," said Desmond Sturgis, Thomas' brother. "You talk with them one day and the next day you can't talk to them. Right now we're trying to get over the shock."
