NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - A private-public partnership has complete confidence that the Nacogdoches community can raise 5.2 million dollars for an aquatic center. The City of Nacogdoches and private donors launched the campaign this week. One million dollars has already come from an anonymous donor. The money will be used to construct a four lane lap pool, water slides, a beach, playground, and lazy river. "It's a very user friendly facility and doesn't make any difference how old you are, whether or not you're disabled is that the pool will be able to accommodates you and your family," said Jim Jeffers, city manager. "And we're convinced it's a worthwhile project and we're looking forward to beginning the fund raising campaign." The proposed aquatic park will replace the Maroney Pool. The facility is in need of constant repair. The aquatic park will be built at the corner of University and Park Street, hopefully by Memorial Day 2011. To donate contact city hall.
