LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - For two decades, Sharon Reid has coached high school softball. For two decades she's never missed the playoffs.
"When the playoffs started in 1993 back when it became a UIL sport, I've never missed the playoffs since then," said Reid.
Reid actually started the Lufkin program leading the Lady Panthers to the playoffs ten straight years. The streak then continued in Alto.
"I made the switch and I'm glad I did." said Reid. "I loved Lufkin, but I really have enjoyed it here."
"She's a great coach, she's like a best friend and a coach," said Brianna Williamson. "She's there for us if we need her and works us hard."
Win after win, Reid has always coached good teams. But never any good enough to get to state.
"It is tough," said Reid. "You think about it, it takes a lot skill and luck. Everything has to go your way because there's some good teams at home."
No luck was needed this year. After twenty years of coaching, Reid is leading the Ladyjackets to Austin. Alto has won 19 straight games.
"It's a great feeling," said Reid. "It takes the kids to get there, but it's a great feeling."
Coach has waited so long for this trip, she admits, she'll be nervous come game time.
"I will be," she said. "I'm going to try and stay calm for the girls though. We've got some that I almost want to take a brown paper bag because they're going to hyperventilate before the game, but they'll be alright."
