City of Lufkin gets ready to host annual Tire Day

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - If you have unwanted tires laying around, the City of Lufkin's annual Tire Day is coming up this weekend. Lufkin said last year they collected about 3,000 tires, that's enough tires for 750 cars.

The city said it's a great way for Lufkin and Angelina County residents to properly dispose of their old tires and to cut down on illegal dumping.

"For whatever reason, people end up with several at the house. As you know, they can breed mosquitoes, they're ugly. It's a service we provide where you can cleanup your neighborhood and get rid of the tires," said Lufkin Assistant Director of Solid Waste and Recycling Lynn Winthrop.

Tire Day is this Saturday, June 6th from 8 a.m. To 12 p.m. at the Regional Recycle Center off South Park Drive. You can dispose of up to eight tires free of charge.  Then, additional car and light truck tires will cost $2 per tire and semi-truck tires will be $6 each.  Off-road tires won't be accepted.
