Lufkin baseball headed to state

For the first time since 1994, Lufkin baseball is headed to state.  The Panthers completed a two game sweep of district rival College Park 2 to 1 on Friday night in Huntsville.  Lufkin heads to the 5A state semifinals in Round Rock next Friday.  The 5A state tournament is at Dell Diamond.

The game was tied at one into the bottom of the seventh inning, when Colton Wynne drove in the game winning run with two outs.

"He came through in the clutch," said Lufkin Head Coach Clay Berry.

Lufkin didn't take advantage of earlier scoring chances, stranding eight base runners in the first three innings.  None of that mattered as the Panthers pitching staff continued to dominate.  Senior Chase Greening pitched another complete game.

The Panthers also got a complete game from starter J.P. Clifton in Thursday's 4 to 2 game one win.
