LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Lufkin State School held their 27th annual Sunshine Open Golf Tournament Saturday at Lufkin Country Club.
The tournament is the state school's biggest fundraiser. The money they raise helps fund major projects that the state does not provide funding for. This year they're trying to buy wheelchair accessible buses to start a new transit system.
The school said it's great to know the community is there for them.
"We really have a whole different group of players this year, so it's just meeting all the people and knowing that they're supporting us," said Lufkin State School Assistant Director for Community Relations Marilyn Colvert.
She said this year 120 golfers participated in the five man scramble.
