LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - A West Sabine superintendent and principal have accepted positions with Goose Creek ISD, according to a spokesperson with the district.

KTRE first reported Friday that Superintendent Travis Edwards and high school principal Susan Jacobs had been approved for assistant principal positions by the Goose Creek ISD board.

Edwards and Jacobs had come under scrutiny in Pineland due to a curriculum they instituted. A paid ad in The Sabine County Reporter alleged an arrest record for Edwards and a misuse of funds.

Edwards responded to the ad in a letter to his teaching staff, documenting improved finances and TAKS scores during his tenure.

Kathy Clausen, director of communications at Goose Creek ISD, said Edwards and Jacobs had cleared criminal and reference checks.
