New Texas law would attract physicians to medically underserved areas

AUSTIN, TX (KTRE) - In May, KTRE told a story about a local hospital that was working to help medically underserved East Texas communities.

Now, Gov. Rick Perry has signed into law legislation that would fund a loan repayment program for doctors who are willing to practice in areas of Texas that need more medical assistance.

The program is expected to draw more than 225 physicians yearly to the Texas' health professional shortage areas.
