LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Unemployment figures continue to rise across the region, according to a report released by Deep East Texas Workforce Solutions.
Lufkin's jobless rate is at 8 percent, compared to 7.3 percent a month ago, while Angelina County's rate also increased seven-tenths of a point, to 8.1 percent.
In Sabine County, 513 of the workforce is jobless, equating to a 14-percent rate, the highest in the region.
Texas reported a 6.9 percent rate in May, up from 6.4 in April.
Nacogdoches County's rate is up to 5.6 percent, from 5.2 percent in April.
The region reported a 7.9 rate in May, up from 7.2 percent in April and 5.2 percent in May 2008.
The region includes Angelina, Houston, Jasper, Nacogdoches, Newton, Polk, Sabine, San Augustine, San Jacinto, Shelby, Trinity and Tyler counties.
